Udupi: Rotaract Club launches unique concept ‘Born with Green’ on Environment Day

Udupi, Jun 7: There are several special days being celebrated all over India throughout the year such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day and Environment Day, so on and when that day is over we all forget all about that Special Day.

However, Rotaract club Subhasnagara, initiated a unique concept on the Environment Day not only to remember that day but celebrate throughout the year and named it ‘Born with Green’.

The speciality of this concept is to gift a sapling to members of Rotaract Club on their birthday.

A recently released report by Australia’s ‘Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration’ warns that the humans will perish in 31 years unless drastic steps are taken to restore the green earth. Therefore, it is very important to take this Environment Day very seriously and work towards all through the year.



Keeping in mind the dangers we are living in Rotaract Club Subhasnagara launched its new project ‘Born with Green’ wherein a plant is gifted to its members on their birthdays which in turn will be planted in their yards and helped the growth of the trees which directly helps the earth to restore water and other environmental benefits.

The Rotaract Club Subhasnagara started this giving away plants/saplings programme way back in 2017. During their weekly club meeting the members who celebrate their birthdays in that week are gifted with plants and on many occasion on the day of their birthday, the President and other members visit their house and gift a plant instead of some useless gifts. The members in turn take care of that plant.

There are nearly 25 members in Rotaract Club Subhasnagara. In the last three years they have gifted nearly 70 plants to its members and also it practice the tradition of gifting plants to Rotary President and Office Bearers of Rotary Club Shankerpura on the occasion of their birthdays as well.

Rotaract Club also distributes Rose Plants to the teachers of Subhasnagara and Shankerpura area on the occasion of Teachers Day. It has so far gifted nearly 70 rose plants on Teachers Day in the last two years. Rotaract club also give plants instead of mementos to the guests who come to visit Rotaract Club on numerous occasions as special guests for various functions.

On the Environment Day ‘Born with Green’ banner was released by the chief guest Gururaj Sanil a well-known environmentalist. Addressing the members he said it is very important and critical that we care of our mother earth and aid that Save trees and in turn save us is the slogan we must remember and act upon it. There is nothing better than planting a tree. He further said that ‘Saving tree is also saving water’ and the roots of the trees hold enormous water underneath and helps us provide water in our wells for drinking. He thanked Rayan Fernandes (president, Rotaract Club) and its members for this unique concept and wished them all the best.

Another guest of the day Mohandas R Shetty (former headmaster, St John’s High School, Shankerpura) also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of planting trees. He said he has taken several initiatives to teach students to plant trees and have taken them to the various places to know the important of trees and saving mother earth.

Rotaract club Subhasnagara chairman Rtn Daniel C Ammanna released book of records.

The ‘Born with Green’ poster was designed by Rayan Chirst D’Souza of The Freelance Network.

All the guests were honoured with saplings by Rotaract Club President Rayan Fernandes. Rayan Mathias conducted the event and Jeevan Pereira rendered the vote of thanks.

The Environment Day meeting was held at Daniel Amman’s residence on June 5.
