Tumakuru, Jun 10: In a strange incident which happened in Melekote village in Sira taluk of the district on Sunday June 9, a girl who was against her marriage to a boy other than the one whom he loved, found a novel method to break free. She acted like having consumed poison. Once she was hospitalized, she eloped with another boy.

Nayana from Melekote was arranged by her family to be married to Manjunath. Nayana was not agreeable for this marriage but it is said that the family members insisted on marrying her to the boy of their choice. The marriage had been fixed for Sunday.

In order to get herself out of this situation, the bride poured some poisonous substance on herself on Saturday night. She claimed having consumed poison, which gave rise to worry and apprehension in the family. The family members immediately rushed her to a private hospital at Sira.

Once she reached the hospital, Nayana escaped with Chetan from Melekote village, duly taking care to ensure that her family members did not notice her.

It is said that Chetan and Nayana were in love since the last several years.

A complaint about this incident was filed in Tavarakere police station. The police have begun probe.
