Bengaluru, Jun 10: Officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA) have succeeded in arresting a person of West Bengal origin, who has been accused of bringing fake currency notes that are printed in Bangladesh and spreading them to various parts of Karnataka after bringing the notes to the city.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sabeeruddin (46) from Malda district of West Bengal. Documents relating to illegal transportation of cash and cellphone have been recovered from him. He was produced in Malda court, and brought here after procuring four days police custody.

The accused used to bring fake notes from Bangladesh and circulate them to various places through his links in the city. The NIA had arrested Gangadhar Kolyar from Bagalkot, Vaneet alias Tagam from Bengaluru and Sajjan Ali from Malda last year. Fake currency notes worth Rs 6.84 lac were recovered from their possession. It also filed charge sheet. In the meanwhile, Sabeeruddin had succeeded in escaping. He has spread his business far and wide in the border areas of the country, officials said.

NIA officials also said that seventh accused in the case, Abdul Khadeer, is also absconding and search for him is on.
