Kasaragod Man Missing from China-bound Ship

The Hindu

Mangalore, May 7: Parents of a man from Kasaragod are going through anxious moments as they have received information that their son, a sailor onboard a merchant vessel, is missing from the ship bound to China from the United States. Authorities of Marlow Navigation, for which Pradeep Raj (26) is working, sent a telegram to his father, Nagesh Chettiyar, at Kudlu near Kasaragod on May 1, stating that Raj was missing from the merchant vessel Eltanin.

The ship had left the United States on April 6.

Sridhar, Raj’s uncle, who resides at Kodical in Mangalore, told The Hindu that Raj had spoken to his parents over phone on April 24. He had told his parents that the ship would reach China on May 13.

The company sent another telegram to Chettiyar on May 2 stating that a U.S. Coast Guard aircraft had conducted a search for Raj and the operation would continue.

Later the company authorities had said that further investigation would be done after the ship reached China, Sridhar said.

I am very sorry to hear the news. Looks like Mr.Raj has gone missing in the Pacific ocean - and the exact location of man overboard is not known. In this case, the US Coastguard will conduct a thorough search for a specific period of time. However, after their set pattern is over, the search will be called off. Dear friends, the Pacific ocean is so big and a single human is so small, it is not possible to find a person missing at sea. Being a sailor for more than 32 years, I  say special prayers for Mr.Raj.
