Bahrain, May 7: The Kudlotsava - 2009 program kicks-off on 8th of May, 2009, with the Men’s Kabaddi Tournament, the children’s Drawing Competition and the Ladies Cookery Competition for which preparations are in full progress.    This will be followed during the following Weekends by the Teen King & Queen Contest, Prince & Princess Contest, and Miss Contest on the 14th May, 2009 at the Delmon International Hotel;  The Boogie-Woogie Dance Competition at the Ramada Palace Hotel premises on 22nd May, 2009: a day-long Ladies 7-a-side Softball Cricket tournament on the 29th of May, 2009 at the Indian Club and the Ladies Throwball Tournament at the Indian Club premises on 5th June, 2009.  

The entrance to all the Competitions and Program is free of charge and attractive sponsored prizes will be given to all the winners and participants in the typical Kudlotsava nostalgia that is unique to the Karnatakans.

Kudlotsava 2009 is being organized for the third time in Bahrain capably compered by Anand Lobo, President of  Mangalore Cultural and Charitable Association, Bahrain in association with Delmon International Hotel, Bahrain.    The title Sponsors are Central Café and a number of other Sponsors.

The grand gala Kudlotsava 2009 Finale, Mega Cultural Festival to be held at the Delmon Hotel Poolside at 7.30 pm on 5th June, 2009, will bring in three eminent luminaries from the Karnataka belt.    

Krishna Palemar, Minister of Ports, Inland Water Transport, Ecology and Environment, Karnataka State;  U T Khader, MLA, Mangalore South, Karnataka State Assembly and Dr. Mohan Alva, Director of  Alva Foundation & Medical Colleges, have kindly consented to grace the occasion in the spirit of “Kudlothsava” to add glitter, glamour and glory to the occasion to conclude with.


Krishna Palemar hails from Jeppinamogure near Mangalore.   A self-made personality from humble self-employed beginnings to a rich experience in the Construction and Land Development sectors.    He is a philanthropist with great vision involved in a number of charitable works for the poor and under-privileged in the State of Karnataka as well as in other parts of India.     He is an industrialist and is continuing his efforts to encourage budding industrialists in any field of development in his present capacity as Minister.


U.T. Khader, is an MLA from the Karnataka State recently elected from Ullal Constituency, near Mangalore.     Khader is the son of former MLA, Late U.T. Fareed from the same Constituency and widely respected by his community and friends.      He is involved in various Projects initiated by his father in his Constituency and would be continuing the good work done by his father.    He is a keen social worker involved in various development Projects in the State.   His dream is to construct a seawall to restrict the malady of sea erosion in his Constituency.

Dr. Mohan Alva, Director of Alva’s Foundation and Medical Colleges, is a pioneering educationist, philanthropist and Social worker.    He is a Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine from Udupi.   He has never looked back since then.    Founder of a number of Ayurvedic, Naturopathy, Yogic and Nursing institutions in Karnataka State, he is involved in a number of medical charitable works.   His work in uplift if the the HIV infected cases and providing them the care as well as to the under-privileged and the poor has won him immense praise and laurels.    He is an embodiment of human values and morals propagating them at every opportunity.    His vision has taken Ayurvedic and other related medicare forums and projects leaps and bounds to the benefit of not only the people Karnataka but also to other parts of India.    Culturally, he is also a music and dance enthusiast encouraging the revival of ancient traditional folk culture in the State.


The presence of these three dignitaries will bring in the added aura and smile to the Kudlotsava 2009 program with just the right Mangalorean VVIP touch it needs.      

The highlights of the various competitions and/or what you can expect are:


Drawing Competition for children: 

Venue: Delmon International Hotel premises, Manama

for children hailing from the State of Karnataka
three groups: 

(1) Sub-juniors – 6 to 9 years 
(2) Juniors – 10 to 13 years

(3) Seniors – 14 to 18 years

 -     Drawing materials, any kind to be brought by participants

 -     three prizes in each category/group will be awarded.

 -     Drawing paper will be provided and topic announced on the spot

 -     Judges decision is final – panel of 9 judges in total

 -     Reporting time 10.00 a.m/08.05.2009 – pls bring copy of  participnt’s CPR

 -     Spot entries will be accepted – no entry fees

3. Ladies Cookery Competition:

Venue: Delmon International Hotel premises

-  Three categories:  Vegetarian, Non-vegetarian and dessert.

- Mangalorean/Karnataka dishes/recipes only.

-   Name of the dish with ingredients and recipe must be listed in A4 size  paper in English without the entrants name/identity – Entrant Nos.  will be given.

Preparation minimum for four persons/portions.
Three prizes in each category

Spot entries will be accepted in compliance with rules laid out – no entry fees.
One special prize for “Queen of all Recipes” to be selected by the judges

-     Judges decision will be final 

There will be enough Kudlotsava paraphernalia for every enthusiast from the Karnataka hinterland and the day will be eventful with fun for all at the Delmon Int’l Hotel premises..

Another highlight of the day is a special talk given for ladies by a Gynaecologist from the Kims Medical Centre, one of the Sponsors of the Kudlotsava 2009 program.     All ladies  are welcome for this talk scheduled to take place around 11.00 a.m. at the Delmon International Hotel premises.
