Karkala: Illegal sand extraction spot raided - Four arrested, vehicles seized

Karkala, Jun 14: A team of policemen led by assistant superintendent of police (ASP) here, Krishnakanth, raided a spot at Yennehole near Ajekar and succeeded in exposing the illegal activity going on there. The police arrested four persons and seized vehicles connected with sand transportation.

The arrested accused happen to be Munawwar (40), Ganesh Bhandary (41), Suresh Poojary (32) and Chiranjeevi (34). They were found to be extracting sand without possessing any licence and without paying any royalty to the government.

The police personnel led by the ASP had raided the spot in the early morning hours on Thursday June 13, on the basis of reliable information.

A tipper truck used for sand transportation, a car, and tempo along with two rubber baskets and four hoes were seized during the operation. Munawwar already faces illegal sand extraction case registered a few days back in Ajekar police station.

The value of sand recovered has been put at Rs 5,500 while the value of vehicles seized has been estimated at nine lac rupees. Ajekar station house officer, Pavaskar, Karkala town station officer, Nanja Nayak and other staff participated in the raid.
