Mangaluru: Lightning, wind, leave trail of injuries - Losses for families

Mangaluru, Jun 14: Heavy rain and lightning which were experienced on Wednesday night at K S Rao Nagar within the town panchayat limits of Mulky inflicted damages to several houses.

Lightning which hit the house of Latif in K S Rao Nagar resulted in injuries to Khateeja Rayija (18) and Rahil (17). Both have been admitted into hospitals where they are recovering. The house of Latif suffered extensive damages, and wiring of the house got burnt. Electricity meter was damaged. The house of Asif, located near Latif's residence, also was damaged due to lightning. Asif is a former president of Mulky town panchayat. Walls of his house have developed cracks. The loss in this connection has been estimated at two lac rupees.

Houses of Hamza, Nissar, Muhammed Ali and Ibrahim in the locality as well as Uttam Bakery in K S Rao Nagar were damaged. Wiring, electrical equipment and electricity meters were destroyed in all the cases.

Revenue officials and members of Mulky town panchayat visited the spot.

Puttur: Due to rain and strong wind, two houses in Tyagarajanagar within Ariyadka gram panchayat here were damaged. The town also experienced artificial flooding.

The houses of Abdul Rahiman and Jameela in Endesagu Janata Colony were damaged. Sheets covering the roof of Jameela's house blew away.

Gram panchayat members, panchayat secretary and village assistant Ismail, visited them. As the drain near a private hospital on APMC Road is filled with silt, artificial flood was experienced as water flowed directly on the road.
