Mangaluru, Jun 14: Charmadi ghat road which is an important link between Dakshina Kannada district and the areas on the other side of the Western Ghats, runs the risk of being closed down if the rainfall this season is torrential.

Western Ghat region and the coastal Karnataka have been experiencing good rainfall since the last two days. Huge trees have started getting uprooted across the road, creating traffic snarls on the ghat road.

Heavy rains have given rise to apprehension about landslides happening in different parts of the ghat section. Along with threes, huge mounds of earth too are getting deposited on the road like the situation which was experienced last year.

Vehicles on the ghat section are moving very slow. Visibility of drivers is affected because of rain and fog. When widespread landslides had happened at the fag end of the monsoon season last year, the ghat road had been closed for traffic. The chances are that this time too the ghat road may be closed if the intensity of rain picks up.
