India Not a Threat: Says Pak Presidendent Asif Ali Zardari

Press Trust of India

WASHINGTON, May 10: Pakistan’s president Asif Ali Zardari has said India is not a threat to Pakistan and it is facing danger from the terrorists inside the  country.

"Well, I am already on record. I have never considered India a threat," Zardari said in an interview on the PBS news channel's popular show "Newshour With Jim Lehrer" on Saturday.

This is the first time a top Pakistani leader has publicly said that India is not a threat to his country; a fact which Obama Administration has been trying to convince Zardari and the Pakistan Army for quite some time now.

"I have always considered India a neighbour, which we want to improve our relationship with. We have had some cold times and we have had some hard times with them. We have gone to war thrice, but democracies are always trying to improve relationships," Zardari said while responding to a question about "which being the greatest threat to Pakistan? India, or the militants."

Last month, at a White House press conference held on the occasion of his 100 days in office, Obama had said such a believe against India by the Pakistani establishment was "misguided".

It is believed that both Obama and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in their meetings with Zardari this week impressed upon him that Pakistan should no longer consider India as a primary threat and rather concentrate its energies on fighting terrorism inside the country.

However, there has been no official word from the Obama Administration in this regard so far after the meetings.

While responding the question about moving troops from Indian border to the tribal areas of Pakistan to fight the war against terrorism, Zardari said: "Pakistan has already done so."

In an interview to the CNN on Friday Zardari had said Pakistan has already move troops from the Indian border and would do more based on the requirement.

"The fact is that we have moved more troops today and yesterday and the day before. We moved them according to the requirement.

"We already have 125,000 personnel there. So when we need to replace them, we need to improve upon their strength, we do that," Zardari said in response to a question.

At last Pakistani President realised that India is not a threat to Pakistan!! What made him to say like that ? Fed up with fighting against Taliban ? Pressure from US ? or to get sympathy from World that he is a peace loving President and not interested in war with India ? or to crush Taliban ,he needs India''s help ? or to fool everyone including his countrymen to gain special image ? Dear Mr.Zardari...India never attacked any country and will not do so in future also. It took 62 years for Pak to realise that India is not a threat !!

Dear brother Shahnawaz, you are one out three among Muslims living in India having such thought. During my last visit to Karkala / Mangalore during December 2008 almost 60% Muslims were supporting those terrorists eventhough a number of victims were Muslims. There could be a reason behind their support, but it is hurting non-Muslims. May God give wisdom to all Muslims in India to think like you and to become true citizens.

Pakistan (thru USA) and its Government have finally begun to reap the fruits of the seeds of terrorism that it sowed long ago. Violent terrorist attacks and bombings have become the norm. Perpetual inter-ethnic conflict made worse by the control of the country''s political system by the military as well as a in religious diversity over the years and the Islamisation of state policies are cited as reasons for public acceptance of religious extremism in Pakistan.

From this condition, things have currently begun to deteriorate with the government unable to control the terrorists and the terrorists running amok. Pakistan nurtured the terrorist militants and as they grew bigger they began to dominate Pakistani politics. Now they have grown so big that they want to eat up the entire state of Pakistan.

We hope the people in power at least now realise that promoting terror in Indian soil and shielding terror camps in PoK will only weaken their country. If they ignore the warning signals and blindly support militant religious extremists and rabid fanatics, a time will come when the world comity of nations will realise the need to take drastic action and allow UN troops to step in and dismantle the nation as such. It''s just like a story in ''Panchtantra'' of Frog(Pakistan) and Snake(Taleban/Al-Qaida)....whatever our ancestors mentioned earlier is totally true..Jai Bharatkanda...

Pakistan is acting under USA pressure and is just resorting to play wild games with us. They are absolutely insincere and most untrustworthy nation. You cannot trust pakistan even one bit. All evidence collected by the Indian investigators point all fingers at pakistan and particularly lashkar e toiba who is the supposed brain behind all attacks in India with the help of locak SIMI organization. Our ministers know this fully and still despite having all concrete proof & strong evidence against pakistan still no concrete action is being taken against them. Our ministers know only to politicize every issue and nothing else.

Political issue is made out of everything and nothing else. Atleast now our military should be asked to cross the LOC and launch immediate air strikes on terrorist camps in and around pakistan. We have already waited for long - let us wait for one more week.. let BJP government come on power... changes will occur..Jai Ho..

Agree with you Shahnawaz. Real danger Pakistan facing today is it''s own people,Taliban and mashrooming terrorist training centres. Many high profile fanatics in a country with rigid rules to common man shouting anti- west slogans but at the same time sending their offsprings to Europe and specially to USA for better living, mere hypocrisy.

Many of Pakstan problems are self created. You have clearly expressed unbiased views. Readers on this website should make a note of your patriotic opinion rather than putting all Indian Muslims in one bracket of supporting Pakistan while living in Indian soil.

India is and has been a peace loving country. Indian army is a defensive army. Pak is lucky to have us as its neighbour. But Pak should not take us for granted because of our good virtues and peaceful nature. Hither to Pak is provoking us. Pak must understand now that real danger for its existance is from Taliban and its own people and not from a neighbour like India.
