Udupi, Jun 22: “Yoga is currently recognized worldwide. Yoga training is being provided as part of physical education in schools in the state. The original form of Yoga should not be changed. It should be continued without changing its origin,” said president of the zilla panchayat Dinakar Babu.
He was speaking after the inauguration of Yoga Day on Friday, June 21, at Ajjarkad Indoor Stadium. He said, “The whole world is understanding the importance of yoga today. All should maintain the basic structure of yoga and then practice it. Many jobs have been created through yoga. Around $6.5 billion of business was made in 2014. By 2020, it is expected to reach out $11 billion. We should adopt a healthy diet food system through yoga,” he said.
It was jointly organized by Ayush department Bengaluru, zilla panchayat Udupi Ayush department, Youth Empowerment and Sports department, Public Education department, and Dr G Shankar Women's First Class College and Postgraduate Studies Center, Ajjarakadu.
Nalini Pradeep Rao, president, Udupi taluk panchayat, Shilpa Suvarna, zilla panchayat member, Dr Rajendra, Dr G Shankar, principal of Women's First grade College and Postgraduate Studies, Madhukar, senior district physical instructor, Dr Narayana Anchan, president, District Ayurveda Association, and Jotsna, resource person were present.
District Ayush department Yoga teacher Lalitha Kedlaya was felicitated.
District Ayush officer Alakananda Rao delivered keynote address.
