Dubai, Jul 2: A 35-year-old Pakistani man went on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance for setting ablaze a warehouse following a dispute with its owner.

The accused set ablaze the warehouse at Ras Al Khor Industrial area owned by an Indian man. The victim said that the accused borrowed money from him and signed equivalent amounts on cheques, however the cheques bounced as the account did not have sufficient amount of money. Later, the accused offered to give machines instead of money as he could not pay back Dh 200,000.

As per the official records, the Indian victim said, “He (the defendant) was renting a warehouse next to mine. He could not pay the rent for it and I agreed to rent it from him and store the machines inside. Three weeks later he came and changed the warehouse’s lock. I changed the lock too and he called me threatening to burn the warehouse and leave the country,” Gulf News reported.

Though the 39 year old victim alerted his sponsor about the issue, in June 2019, he received a call informing him that the warehouse had been set ablaze. The accused has confessed to the crime and the verdict is expected on July 8.
