Rahul Gandhi Shut the Door on DMK's Ministers

Rediff

New Delhi, May 22: It is Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi who scripted keeping out Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's members of Parliament T R Baalu and A Raja from the Union Cabinet, say sources.

The script was written two days ago, and the member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi went to the extent of asking his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leaders whether with MPs of its own, shouldn't the Congress project a clean and corruption-free image. Sonia agreed with him, and the formula was put to test.

To remain stubborn in the face of opposition was Rahul's principled stand and he deserves congratulations for this, said a senior Union minister who is privy to such high-level discussions.

Baalu and Raja, shipping and communication minister respectively, landed the previous United Progressive Alliance government in a huge controversy over the Ram Sethu issue and the 3G spectrum auction.

Rahul Gandhi has been mentioning the need to project a corruption-free image to his close confidants even before the polls. Those who knew the young MP's mindset were not surprised on Friday when the DMK walked out of the discussion table.

This is not the first time that Rahul Gandhi has shown startling political acumen. It was his idea to keep Lalu Prasad Yadav out in Bihar before the elections, which paid rich dividends to the Congress party in terms of increased vote share. Similarly, it was he who scripted roping in Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and the National Conference's Farooq Abdullah for the July 22, 2008, trust vote.

Rahul would do well to make total transparency and accountability, the hall mark of INC. For this he must introduce Multi Purpose Biometric Smart Card linked to their finger prints for every citizen and make its use mandatory to track all transactions above Rs. 100 as a debit card to a single account. For this the Rs. 1,000, 500 and 100 currency note must be demonetized. Will he do it for the sake of the nation which is supreme to all, in a true democracy?!

Let''s not jump the gun here. Rahul''s father Rajeev came to power with a much larger mandate - yet he ended up the same way as typical indian politicians - corruption scandals, abuse of power etc. Till such time Indian politics is completely de-criminalized all these actions are like arranging the chairs on the titanic... On the other hand, maybe Rahul is from a different mould... Only time will tell...

This really deserves appreciation. But here are some questions to think about 1) If the Congress knew they were corrupt, why did  they form the alliance ? [Is that for winning the election?] 2) Why did not Rahul raised a clear voice about corruption before the election and keep wrong candidates out of election picture [Is he too afraid to raise his voice within the party ]

We always start jumping with a flicker of positive sign anywhere. The task is not that easy. The question is , Just " PROJECTING" A CLEAN OR CORRUPTION-FREE govt. is enough ? Or Mr. Rahul really wants to maintain a clean govt.? Then what about The QUATROCHIES ? Does he have GUTS to act that far ? Or just an Image-building, the way Lalu,s Image was CREATED as a MANAGEMENT-GURU ?

Congratulations Rahul. You have done the right thing of showing the doors to Lalu, Amar, Mulayam and DMK etc. etc. Can we really believe & trust you on undoing the caste based voting system coined by none other than Indira Gandhi or this is just a mimicry of opportunity. I salute you and accept you provided first you shun the doors of religion and conversion of caste based politics of congress. Congress says communual forces should not come to power, whereas the real communal forces are Congress & its allies. If you are honestly undoing this, then you are really welcome in our hearts and we will show the doors to BJP & Co. Otherwise, you are no less than all so called rougues to this nation, who are really dividing the country in the name of religion and caste.

Time DMK is dumped. The two discredited Ministers played havoc and are steeped in corruption that is why the money power had played a prominent role in T. N election . This has vitiated the scene here. Azhagiri the other one trying to enter the Ministry is another demon to be shunned.
