New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) : A septuagenarian has been arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old maid who had been employed at his house for the past six years, police said Sunday.

The incident took place May 14 but the accused, Thakur Das, "was arrested Saturday evening after the victim revealed his name", a senior police officer said.   

Das, 72, a resident of the Punjabi Bagh area in west Delhi, assaulted the victim when there was nobody else in the house, the officer said.        

"He raped her and threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. But after her condition deteriorated, Takhur's family took her to a hospital.    

"Her medical examination revealed that she was raped," the officer said.   

The victim, from Jharkhand, was working at Das' house for the last six years. She had got the job through a placement agency.   

Das, a wholesale fruit dealer, was arrested after the victim identified the accused.    

"She was initially traumatised, because of which she didn't name Das. But finally Saturday she alleged that Das had raped her. He was arrested soon after that," the officer said.
