Kasargod: Worker from Dharwad drowns in pond

Kasargod, Jul 6: A worker identified as Mahantesh Mukundappa (18) from Dharwad district, who had visited a pond near a tiles factory at Kundamguli in the district, met watery grave. The victim, who was a resident of a rented house at Ashoknagar here, drowned on Thursday July 4.

Mahantesh was accompanied by some friends when they went to the water to wash themselves. However, Mahantesh suddenly disappeared. In spite of efforts of others accompanying him, he could not be traced. Then Mahantesh's friends shouted for help. Locals came there and passed on information to fire station at Kuttikkol. The firemen came there and searched for Mahantesh but in vain. Later, a special machine used for under-water operations was brought from Hosdurg. With the help of this machine, the body of Mahantesh, which had got buried in the silt accumulated at the bottom, was retrieved.
