Saudi court sentences former wife to prison for calling previous husband 'devil'

Jeddah, Jul 10: On Wednesday, a court in Saudi sentenced a woman to serve a three day jail term for calling her earlier husband, 'stupid' and a 'devil.'

The matter came to light when the husband in question filed a lawsuit against his earlier wife who he divorced five years ago. He accused his earlier wife of using racial slurs and hurling abuses via WhatsApp.

The court in the western Saudi city of Jeddah had earlier advised the couple to sort out their differences, but they failed to do so. With the recent lawsuit, the court condemned the earlier wife's behaviour and made her pledge to never repeat it again.

In her defence, the woman stated that she sent the messages in retaliation to the insults hurled by the previous husband towards her family.
