Mangalore, May 29: The schools following the state syllabus are set to reopen after summer vacations today. Most of the children are horrified with the thought of going to the school again by having to get out of their beds early, get busy with preparing to go to school in the morning, having early break fast, packing up things, going to school either walking or getting crumpled in a corner of a vehicle and study at school. Others are eager to meet their old friends, share their experiences during the holidays, make new friends, get new uniforms, books etc.

The parents who were relieved of the need to force the children out of bed early, feed them, ready their school bag and send them off before the waiting auto rickshaw honks in a threatening gesture of moving ahead without picking their children, feel their adrenalin racing again in the mornings. Auspicious occasions are almost over, guests have returned to their places and rainy season is peeping in.

The umbrellas and rain coats of the children have to be either bought or repaired. The parents have an additional responsibility to ensure that the kids have brought back their rain coats or umbrellas without mistakenly exchanging them. They now need to look for the diaries of the children and complete home work by holding back children rearing to go out for play in the evening. For the kids who have been admitted to the LKGs or the first standards in new schools, the occasion overwhelms them, as they are apprehensive about the school environment, teachers and class mates.

The roads that remained lull during the summer holidays have come alive in the early mornings from today. At around eight, autorickshaws, school vans and private vehicles carrying school kids are seen zooming in and out of lanes and by-lanes, picking up kids in time, which is not an easy job, and dropping them at school again. For the drivers of these vehicles, it is painful not to see some of the faces they were so attached to, as they might have got promoted to high schools or shifted to other towns. At the same time, they get to know newer kids too.

The routine goes on. Like change of seasons, roles and situations keep changing. Like nature, the system remains the same, but for some subtle changes.

Thanks to daijiworld for nice pictures and article. By looking St.Gerosa Uniform and the entrance gate I remembered my school days. But when compared to Indian school, here the children are leaving their bed and catch up school bus much much earlier. Wishing all the children best of luck in their studies.
