Udupi, Jul 14: ‘Public grievance hearing meeting’ held on Saturday, July 13, by Ivan D’Souza, MLC and parliamentary secretary, received a huge response by the general public.
The programme was jointly organized by Udupi District Indian Christian Union (ICU) and revenue department at Snehalaya auditorium here.
Addressing the gathering, Ivan D’Souza, said, “Government should go to the doors of the needy people. Government programmes and schemes should reach them. The government officials should meet the needy families in order to solve their problems, though they are under work pressure. Let them sacrifice the government leave in order to provide better facilities for the poor and needy. Only then, government can achieve success,”
“The government should meet even the last and least person of the society and he should get basic infrastructure. I have conducted revenue meetings in 17 districts. The government officials should visit door to door to meet homeless, deprived, backward class, elderly, handicap etc to provide pension from government. Public should not suffer in getting government benefits,” he added.
“People should get benefits easily through the government departments. For this to happen, the law must be simplified. There are grievances that the farmers are not getting suitable price for their yields. The government has allotted Rs 45,000 crore for waiving off their debts. Let us join hands together to get the work done.” Ivan said.
Speaking on the occasion, assistant commissioner Dr S S Madhukeshwar said, “Public service is God's service. All religion scriptures emphasize on peace, love and sacrifice. There is a need to develop good relationship between public and government. Today government is giving people-friendly administration. We will work for the citizens. We will put sincere efforts to serve the people.”
Tahsildar Pradeep Kurudekar said, “There are people, who are not aware of the government schemes and programmes like old age pension, widow pension, monthly pension for the disabled, scholarships and so on. We will try to provide all kind of information in all possible ways,”
H R Lamani, district officer, minority welfare department, Kishore Puthran, minority development commission, Dr Surendra Chimbalkar, health department, Manjunath A S, ADLR, Kiran, assistant director, fisheries department, Raju K EO, Mohanraj, ADA of agriculture department, Lakshmikant of pollution control board, officers of forest, revenue, food supply, women and child welfare department and others were present.
All community people actively participated in the public hearing meeting. Various government benefits like old age pension, CM relief fund, monthly pension and pension for physical challenged were distributed to the beneficiaries on the occasion.
Sunil Kabral Shirva, president of ICU, Charles Amlar, secretary, Melwin D'Souza Shirva, vice-president, Deon D'Souza Kalmadi, Ronald Manohar Karkada, honorary president and others were also present.
Stevan Colaco, joint secretary of ICU compered the programme.
