Mangalore: Lightning Damages Buildings in Twin Districts

Mangalore, Jun 16: After lightning struck Peraje zilla panchayat higher primary school building near Vittal on Monday June 15 afternoon, the building developed cracks. The children, who were in their classes, became fearful at the development. Two children suffered mild shocks. They were sent home after consulting a doctor. The electrical wiring of the school was burnt down in the incident.

A house owned by Chikku Poojarti, a resident of Padiyarahitlu of Shirur near Kundapur suffered extensive damages due to lightning on Monday. The terrace of the building bore the brunt of the lightning. Lives were not lost, as the family members were not inside the house at the time. Village accountant of the area visited the spot and assessed the damage.

At around 6 pm on Monday, a house belonging to Kalidas Kalkura, located near Mudrady Uppala, was struck by lightning. The house suffered damages amounting to about Rs 50,000. Lightning also inflicted a loss of about Rs 20,000 to the house of Sundar Achar in Shivapura Khajane in Udupi district.
