Bangalore, Jun 16: The Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders, who have evinced interest in warding off the trouble brewing within the state BJP because of the growing discord between top leaders and ministers, held secret parleys with chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and energy minister K S Eshwarappa here on Monday June 15.

Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who chose to remain in the state capital in spite of not having any listed official programmes for the day, went in his private car without the escort vehicles on Monday morning and took part in the discussions. Energy minister Eshwarappa, who has been bitter about certain actions of the chief minister, besides MP Anant Kumar, were involved in the discussions with the RSS leaders.

Reportedly, the discussions were held in the residence of a RSS leader, instead of the organization’s official headquarters, 'Keshav Kripa'. RSS national executive member My Cha Jayadev and others took part in the discussions. The RSS leaders brought both Eshwarappa, who was peeved at certain remarks made by the CM about the functioning of the Shimoga district BJP and also about the fielding of the CM’s son from there, which he deems as dynastic politics, and the chief minister face-to-face and tried to quell the differences of opinion. They told the senior leaders, that the party as well as the government will suffer, if the leaders fight among themselves, at a time when the BJP has succeeded in coming to power on its own in the state.

It is said, Eshwarappa struck to the stand that the statements made by him about the fielding of B S Raghavendra from Shimoga was in tune with the policies and principles of the party. However, the RSS leaders did not accept his arguments and felt that he should not have reopened a closed issue.

About the other issues, the RSS leaders advised the chief minister to take others into confidence, rather than taking unilateral decisions. They told him that because of personal egos, a rare chance which the BJP has been given in south India to rule a state, should not be allowed to slip out of its hands.

The RSS leaders also wanted the BJP leaders to concentrate on developmental programmes and wanted the legislators and ministers not to issue public statements against the party or the government. These statements and counter statements will damage the party and also inflict ill affects on the functioning of the government, they felt.
