Sara Fathima (28) Becomes Karnataka's First Muslim Lady DySP

Sara Fathima (28) Becomes Karnataka's First Muslim Lady DySP

Mysore, Jun 19 (DHNS): A woman from Mysore district has emerged as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) after undergoing gruelling year-long training at Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) in Mysore.

Sara Fathima (28) becomes the first woman in the Muslim community to hold the coveted post in Karnataka, after independence.

Daughter of late Mukthar Ahmed and Munawar Sultana, she hails from Bannur in T Narsipur taluk in Mysore district. She was one among the 13 probationers including four women, who participated in the 28th passing out parade held at KPA parade grounds in Mysore on Thursday.

Sara finished her early education at Lions Club school in Bannur and moved to Mysore for her PUC at JSS College in Saraswathipuram.  She completed her BBM in Marketing in Vidya Vardhaka College.

Speaking to Deccan Herald Sara said that her role model is her uncle Syed Ulfath Hussain, who is DIG (Recruitment and Training) in Bangalore.

Sara’s mother Sultana regretted that her husband was not alive to see the day. He died last year.DGP Ajai Kumar Singh confirmed that Sara was indeed the first woman to adorn the seat of DySP through direct recruitment. Although there are many women in the department, he has not come across any such Muslim woman promoted to the rank of DySP.

Congrats Sara on your achievement. You have brought honour to your family, community and friends and relatives. I know many police officers including the present I.G.P. Mr. Ashit Prasad - a man of character and grit. You have some one in Mysore who will indeed understand you and provide you guidance and help. I am writing from U.S.A. but hope to be in Mangalore in September. It would be great if you would come to Mangalore on a posting. With best wishes. Joe Gonsalves

I agree that muslim ladies hardly get any support to come up in public life- but this India and this is the only country where Muslim ladies are enjoying same status because of the open heartedness of the majority. If she had been in Pakistan or Swat, she would have been beaten for going to school !! Good job Ms Fathima and Karnataka & India needs people like you.

She has succeeded through her own efforts. Please don''t pat the government on this issue. All i can say is that if she proves to be a tough and no nonsense officer, then the government will spare no efforts in transferring her every third day.Congratulations Ms Fatima. Hope you will prove to be a leader for your community, and your success will lead to many women joining the police force.

Mr Rajesh Rao/Mangalore. I agree with your comments. Its not a case of appeasing minority. Just recruitig one muslim lady in millions doesnt amount to appeasing minority. She has done it through hard work and committment. All communities should join together in congratulating this lady as an achiever rather than as a muslim officer. FYI Mr Yeddiurappa has no hands in this recruitment and I disagree with Sunil Shetty''s observation. Mr Yeddi may not be communual but the party he represents is more than 100% commuual, so his ideologies are influenced by party''s ideologies.

I disagree with the views of Mr. Sunil Shetty, Mumbai. I don''t think Mr. Yediurappa had any role in recruitment of the deserving lady. The recruitment agency i.e, the KPSC is a independent body. She must have been recruited as she is a deserving candidate. We had many presidents in our country who were muslims. That dosent mean the Govt. of then should be given credit labelling them as secular. Mr. Sunil even if you are a deserving candidate and make a sincere effort you too would have been ed.
