Puttur: Coastal MPs vent Their Resentment at Railway Budget

Puttur, Jul 4: Udupi MP D V Sadanand Gowda and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel have accused the UPA government at the centre, of meting out a step-motherly treatment to the Karnataka coast in its railway budget. "The budget, which is excessively tilted in favour of Kerala, has caused grave injustice to Karnataka in general and the coastal region in particular," they commented.

The MPs say, the budget, in an attempt to appease E Ahamed, minister of state in the UPA government, has neglected coastal Karnataka.  Instead of sanctioning an additional day-train between Mangalore and Bangalore, the railway ministry has extended the existing night train service between these cities to Kannur. At the same time, the ministry has rejected the demand of the commuters to extend the Mumbai-Goa-Karwar super fast train to Mangalore, which serves as the gate way of Karnataka, they commented. They also expressed displeasure at the fact that only a nominal amount has been set aside for the completion of Shravana Belagola-Bangalore railway line works that would have shortened the distance between Mangalore and Bangalore.

"Karnataka, which is setting aside a huge amount for railway development, is not getting any facility. On the contrary, Kerala, which does not provide any funds to the railway development, gets facilities in excess of expectations. The new super fast train between Mangalore and Tiruvanantapuram is an example for this irony, they added.

They said, that the plan to upgrade Mangalore railway station is a ploy to ensure that the railway station remains in Palghat division.  The extension of the Mangalore-Bangalore train to Kannur will not only reduce the seat availability for the people of the coast, but gradually, this train might leave from Kankanady station instead of touching Mangalore Junction, they apprehend.

They said, they can not remain mute spectators to these injustices and will organize agitation against the discriminatory tactics of the central government. Home minister Dr V S Acharya, Railway Commuters Association Udupi president R L Dias and several others have also echoed the same sentiments.

    UPA Govt is doing partiality towards BJP ruled states. Why to blame DVS and Nalin? What Mr Moily and Oscar is doing at centre? Mr Moily has given a gud gift for gays by declaring it legal. Shame on you guys. Since How many years Oscar is an MP of loksabha OR Rajyasabha ? He just slept in Delhi . Thats his achievement.

    Even Lalu when he had come to inaugurate the Yeshwantpur express had mentioned about the ''bus and truck'' lobby which had been instrumental in delaying the starting of this train. These people who are shouting from roof tops now did nothing when they were in power yeiding to ''suitcases'' and now shamelessly voice their concern. Mr .Nanu you expect thees people to know about Zero hour? They are being Zeroes themselves!!

    Its a fundamental right of the opposition to oppose any actions of ruling Govt,but these low profile politians know the fact that there more than 100 odds super deluxe luxury buses plying between Bangalore and Mangalore on daily basis and the bus owners lobby and of couse KSRTC which gives handsome amount of revenue to karnataka govt should be happy with this extention to kannur. To politicise these issue they are right, but indirectly its looks like thier own party must be backing or supporting this extension.

    Shame on this BJP MP,s who are elected by coastal district for the last 15 years. They don''t have any voice to raise point and justify the needs of coastal karnataka ( D.K) . When BJP/NDA was in power what NDA government gave for 6 years of Rule to karnataka ? These MP,S are fit to laugh and give to media and people false promises and mis guide local . Its good move by Railway minister ing Mangalore station to upgrade to world class. Is this not enough for this time? I feel mangalore will look beautiful if station upgrade..Good luck railway minister and Congress/ UPA.

    Karnataka MP''s need to grow up. Simply by crying matter cannot be solved. They need to press for their demands. Instead of sending ministers to Foreign tours they need to go to Delhi, discuss the matter with central ministers involoved. These MP''s are too busy in victory celebrations and causing communal hatred. So Nalin Kumar and Sadananda Gowda open your eyes now. Take up this matter with concerned ministry at the Center.

    I fail to understand, the logic behind not extending the Mumbai - Goa - Karwar superfast train to Mangalore. If the people of Karnataka are deprived of their rights, then all MPs whether they are in BJP, Congress or any other party should put pressure on the Railway Minister. But the problem is, if you put pressure on her, she has the habit of threatening to quit the ministry!!!

    Mangalore has been electing BJP MP''s for the last 15 years.Don''t these MPs have a voice in parliament. It is utterly shameful that this district has been utterly neglected as far as railways is concerned. Even the so called superfast Matsyagandha express comes full speed from mumbai upto surathkal and takes over an hour from surathkal to mangalore because of change of divisions here (konkan to southern railways). We have no hope at all of local/passenger trains between Mangalore and Coondapur and of course the Bangalore-Mangalore train is a big farce. Kannur already had a bi-weekly train to Bangalore via another route.The southern railway is particularly fond of Kannur and earlier they even had a plan of making this place a starting point for trains that originated from mangalore. Our MPs only strut their feathers in Mangalore but act like chuas in Delhi.

    instead of raising voice in parliment these MPs are raising these issue in front of Media person just for getting publicity..Examble MP Nalin Kumar on 2/7/09 skipped Parliment session only bcoz of voting in Talulk Panchayath election of Belthangadi.we Mangalorean also want day time train to Bangalore that's why we sent you (MPs)to parliment not for enjoying, this is too late but still possible. plz don't do protest for publicity.

    I do agree with both the MPs'' views. Coastal Karnataka has once again been neglected. But do these MPs have right to blame UPA government? Sadanand Gowda has been an MP in the last Lok Sabha too. How far was he able to influence and pursuade railway minister and ministry to get certain projects sanctioned. He went on issuing protests before Bangalore-Mangalore train started. Everyone knows that he had no role to play in Bangalore-Mangalore train. Do our MPs ever open their mouth in parliament demanding anything for their constituencies? What right Nalin Kumar has to blame UPA. While railway minister was busy preparing budget, he was busy with petty politics of taluk panchayat. He skipped parliament session in order to support BJP candidate in Beltangady taluk panchayat election. (Ref: Beltangady: MP Nalin''s Efforts Go in Vain: Congress Nets TP Post). If he was so concerned, he should have gone to Delhi to attend parliament session or even be there a day or two ahead (like most of the Kerala MPs do) to meet railway minister and pursuade her. Of course, even if he had gone, he could not have done much since he cannot converse either in Hindi or English with Didi and she doesn''t know Kannada and Tulu. One should have seen Nalin Kumar struggling to explain his views to National Highway authorities at a meeting held at Bantwal a couple of days ago. Finally a person was asked to translate what Nalin said to the officials and do the vice-versa with regard to the NH 48 work at Bantwal. Blaming the govt will not fetch anything Mr Gowda and Nalin. Rather try to spend time for the welfare of the people than running behind cattle and herd. First try to be good parliamentarian. Then everything will fall in line. Just take cue from Dharward BJP MP Prahlad Joshi. He was the one who attended most parliament sessions in the last parliament and he is the one in Karnataka who has managed to get highest amount of grant for his constituency from the same UPA government. Don''t just try to pass the buck because you are unfit. DVS, being the president of state BJP is busy solving problems within state BJP while Nalin is still not come out from his religious functions, felicitations and chasing cattle lifters. He is a new and young MP and just see what has he done? He has escaped the first full-fledged session of parliament for some petty local politics. Do these then have right to criticise anyone, forget about union government?

    Fight for our rights please, don’t moan now like small babies. My understanding is that the Kerala MP’s and MLA’s lobbied hard for this while you guys were busy with victory celebrations. Congress and BJP are equally responsible for neglect of railways in Karnataka especially in the Mangalore region.
