Dubai, Sep 6: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai have implemented the Tech Taxi initiative, which aims at providing WiFi in taxis.

The e-hailing taxi service 'Hala' was launched in association with Careem on Wednesday.

In a statement, Khaled Al Awadi, director of transportation systems at RTA, stated that the WiFi service will help the passenger to connect and log on to (www.taxiconnect.ae), to access several digital services and will also help in communicating with the driver using instant interpretation of the passenger's language to the driver's selected language displayed on the meter screen.

One of the digital services available is information on the current market exchange rates of various currencies to dirhams. In addition to these services, one of them helps the passenger to rate the performance of the driver, and capture the taxi meter screen on his or her smartphone.

Through these new projects, Awadi claimed that they were keen on making Dubai a smart city.
