Kundapur, Jul 7: In a macabre accident that occurred at Kambadakone near Kambadakone Bridge within the Byndoor police station limits at about 10 am on Tuesday July 7, four people, who were travelling by an autorickshaw, lost their lives.

A ore-laden truck and an auto rickshaw were involved with a head-on collision at the above spot. After the ore truck hit the auto rickshaw, the three-wheeler was tossed in the air and into a ditch, about 15 feet below. The vehicle was torn into pieces due to the impact. Rickshaw driver Shankar Devadiga (42) from Uppunda village, passengers Lakshmi (49), her son-in-law Keshav (30) and his six-month-old baby daughter Vandana, died on the spot. Keshav's wife Vani (24) was shifted to Manipal hospital in a very critical condition. The eyewitnesses said that the chances of her survival are remote.

The family was going to Arehole temple to pay obeisance, when misfortune approached them in the form of the ore truck. There was heavy downpour at the time of the accident and the people have their own versions of the happening. Some claim, the ore truck driver could not have seen the autorickshaw because of heavy rains, while some others say that the truck driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when the accident happened. The truck too got down from the road for some distance before coming to a stop.

Byndoor policemen are investigating.

These ore Trucks have become a menace, its high time that some strict action has to be taken.Because of sheer negligence and carelessness of a driver four innocent lives are lost. The people of D.K. should unite and see that these trucks are all stopped at the border and taken in a escort all together in a limited speed, so that they do not over take one another. Really a terrible loss for the family may god give them strength to bear the loss.
