Mangalore, Jul 9: An incident of theft came to light on Thursday July 9 at a shop selling mobile phones near Clock Tower Circle, Hampankatta in the city. The thieves have decamped with over 75 mobile phones approximately worth Rs 8 lac.

Police suspect that the incident occurred in between the late night hours of Wednesday, July 8 and the early morning hours of Thursday, June 9. The thieves entered the shop, Swiss collections owned by Abdul Razak, a resident of Sundarbhag near Ullal by breaking open the two locks of the shutter. The shop is situated in front of the Town Hall and close to the Central Market.















Razak said that over 75 mobile phones that include popular brands were stolen from the shop. In addition, recharge coupons and few watches too were taken away by the thieves. The theft came to light when I came to open the shop in the morning, he said.

Mangalore North police inspector Vinay S Naika and team are investigationg the case. Fingerprint experts too were pressed into service.

    It is true that in the heart of Mangalore city robbery has taken place. We are good in blaming each other specially our police personnel. How many shop owners know that there is a policy called Shopkeepers''Insurance package policy? This policy provide coverage for shop Building & contents including cash-in-safe etc. So it is the responsibility of the shop owner or the Bank which advance loan for purchase of goods & merchandise to take a Shopkeepers'' insurance package cover. Always be Insured and be safe. Hope Police will do their best to nab the culprits very soon.

    I fully support Mr. Munna. The police should have night partrolling. If something likes this happens in the heart of mangalore city, and it is noticed only in the morning, just we cannot imagine how safe are the shops and houses of people living on the outskirts of mangalore city. There should be a police patrol jeep assigned to a certain area and they should do their rounds every half an hour in the night time. Especially from 11 pm to 4 am. Thanks.

    Dear people of Mangalore. Please do not expect the police to keep an eye on each and every lock in the City. They have better things to do than keeping an eye on each and every thief who commit such petty thefts. People too should take security measures like fixing extra locks, surveillance cameras, burglar alarms, appointing security guards, etc., depending the valuables they own and the kind of business they run.

    So please take equal responsibility and safe guard yourselves from such incidents. There is no doubt this thief will be caught by the police one day or other and if luck prevails all the stolen items will be recovered. So wish them good luck and provide them with all possible support to nab the culprits.

    donot blame the cops it is responsibility of shop owner as well to properly secure stock and shop by fixing the centre locks,proper secured storage facilities inside the shop to keep expensive stocks(lockers) please refer the pictures .i am not taking cop''s side but let us be realistic

    Heart of the city. Is the law protector are patronizing indirectly this act. Heart of the city and inspite of police patrolling this incident has occurred. This leads doubt to many questions.
