Mangalore: Vamanjoor Rohi Murder : Police Arrest Four

Mangalore, Jul 10: A special team formed by the superintendent of police on Friday July 10, nabbed four of the accused in the murder of Vamanjoor Rohi alias Rohidas Shetty that took place recently.
Sampath Bhandary (30), resident of Urundady gudde near Panjimogaru, Dhanaraj (26), resident of Kalbavinagara near Kottara, Santhosh Kottary (23) and Krishnappa Salian (59), residents of Jyothinagar near Vamanjoor, are the arrested.
Superintendent of police (SP) Dr A S Rao told presspersons that the team made the arrests based on the clues provided by Bhandary.
“Vishwanath Koraga Shetty is the prime accused in this case, but he is settled abroad”, said Dr Rao, adding that Nikhil Shetty, Bhasker, and Murughan are some of the others who are yet to be arrested in this case.
“The victim was wanted in 19 cases including two murders. A rival gang planned to murder him six months ago and Rs 1 lac and a pistol were provided to the accused”, said the SP.
“Rohi was given sleeping pills in his dinner at the house where he was staying. The house owner Krishnappa Salian and a lady helped the murderers in executing their plan by providing information and unlocking the door of the house”, he added.
On Sunday July 5, the murder was executed. Rohi’s body had several stab wounds and he later died in a private hospital.
Four sharp weapons, a pistol, a Maruthi car, a bike, and three mobile phones were seized from the accused. Inspector general of police (western range) Gopal Hosur awarded Rs 20,000 to the police team headed by inspector B R Lingappa and sub-inspector Prakash, for this operation.
