Mangalore, Jul 12: The city’s Jawa-Yezdi motorcycle enthusiasts held a rally which began from Capital Towers, Kadri Toll Gate, at 4 pm on Sunday July 12.
The rally passed through the city’s main streets and Tannirbavi beach before concluding at Capitol Towers at 6.45 pm.
The motorcyclists on 18 bikes passed through the city familiarizing fellow bikers with their passion for their vehicles on the occasion.
This is the first time that such an event took place in the city. The rally was organized by Yezdi enthusiasts Arun Shiri, proprietor, Ashiba Signboards, and Shawn Fernandes who own a 1983 model Yezdi Classic and Yezdi Road King, respectively. The oldest Jawa that took part in the rally dated back to 1969 and the Yezdi was from 1996.
The legendary Jawa bikes were manufactured by Ideal Jawa Private Limited in India by Rustom Irani under the brand ‘Yezdi’ in Mysore, which downed its shutters in 1996 following the influx of foreign bikes into the country.

I had purched a yazdi 1981 model. It is super roaring. Really great value.
As a school kid in Hubli i was fascinated to see yezdis ,my medical rep friends zoomed on yezdis, they wore beetleboots now suddenly when iam 50 i am in love with them again .TO see the Mangalore rally was superb.
I missed to my Yezdi Roadking on this event.......

I dont have much riding experince of Jawa/Yezdi. But I know that during 80s & 90s the famous rallyist Jagat & Anita Nanjappa won many rallys on Yezdi including K 1000.
Really interesting coverage .Driving MEX 2941 ( JAWA-in the last picture) is my brother .He is very fond of this bike and ever since he brought this Jawa ,30 years ago he used maintain & clean this bike without fail & still he commute with this JAWA daily.Really Nice to see all the (Yezdi & Jawa) bike lovers, which remembers good old days in Car street. No one in my home able to start my brother''s bike except him .There is No 2nd kick when he start his bike 1st Kick It should & It will s tart .
I brother owned a yezdi 7933 which was later painted yellow and had some chinese word scribbled on it. It was quite noticable and popular wonder who is riding it now !!
Great Job Arun, nice one. Actually, the joy of riding a 2 stroke bike is beyond all words.. It''s a feel that no 4 stroke vehicle can ever give. The sound, the pick up, the rush of blood and so on. I ride my bro''s KB 100 1990 model on Bangalore roads, it does burn a hole in my pocket bcos of mileage and maintainence. However, people do notice this bike. At a signal once, one guy just could not stop appreciating the bike. He finally said, one amazingly rough and tough bike! and i felt so proud of it :).. I am hoping to ride it for some more years and maybe one day, it will make it to the vintage scene!
Great going guys... I too have my dad''s bike back 1972 model MEX 811 in Mangalore and I miss it lots... It was the safest bike with those 32.5 tyres I ever rode ...Wish I can make it for the rally in the coming year...

Great Job... Arun, My Dad to me have always been a Jawa/Yezdi Man...The bike I learnt riding was an Yezdi...Had the Privilege to own a Yezdi Road King in 1995.. Still remember when I got the delivery from Praveen Motors...it cost me around Rs.36000/-on Road The best mechanic I could still remember for yezdi was Mr. Ravi near Besant Women''s college...
Did you all know you can still ride a Yezdi without the clutch.... Yes all you have to do is Play with the Gear...Those were the best days of my life...

Yezdi is a great bike, I had owned one between 1993 to 1997. I rode it from Mangalore to Dapoli (Ratnagiri ditrict) in a single stretch (750 Kms).
Thanks Daiji for reminding us about the 1980''S when all the ralliest''s used JAWA n YEZDI''s for the National rallies,it was a steardy bike no doubt,I cann''t forget the teams of Anitha Nanjappa, Farook Ahmed n Gautham Kadam,Nushrath Ali,Hameed from M''lore and several others who were all time favorites riding these bikes on the toughest terrains of South India such as the MYSORE SAFARI, KARNATAKA-1000,THE COFFEE RALLY and many others the beats of the exhaust when riding down the ghats are still in my memories THANK U ONCE AGAIN
Its nice too see all Yezdi''s & Jawas''s on the roads of Managalore (Mangaluru)... I really the nostalgic days of riding a Yezdi or a Jawa.... The days are gone now.... Really wish to have these bikes back again in Mangalore. Not the present flimzy make shift competion bikes of today.... with style etc... Congrats to all the organisers... great show.... cheers

I learnt bike riding in Yezdi in 1983 from one of my friend, after that I never got the opportunity to ride this beautiful machine again it is nice to see so many Yezdi bikes together.

I need to buy a yezdi or jawa as old as possible - but should be in a working condition. During my school days, there was only one such bike in our entire village and I was very envious of that person and always dreamt of owning one. Those were strong bikes unlike the current one''s which may be more fuel efficient.
Thrilling! It reminds me several years of college with Yezdi. I remember the overflow problem of carburettar and kick starts. It was fun still...
I used to ride a Jawa (model 1972) when I was in college. At the time, it was one of the few good looking bikes around because of its colour (metallic blue), reshaped tank and striking graphics. Later after moving to Bangalore I held on to the pleasure of Yezdi/ Jawa (amidst the Bajajs and Hondas) by using a Yezdi CL II.
No doubt these were the wheels which brought you closest to having an Enfield. Kudos to Daijiworld on this coverage. Also thanks to the organizers Arun and Shawn. Should see a lot more enthusiasts at such events in future.
I still remember our Yezdi bikes MEX4691 / MEX5609. I used to ride from 1974-1981. It was a great time.
My 1st bike was a 1994 model Yezdi roadking. What a bike!! I miss my yezdi now :(

My first ride was with Yedi Jawa,we can still see these yezdi bikes at chickmagalur coffee estates,its a caliber,even on dirty tracks,rivers,it goes without any problem,the main advantage is the spares are very cheap compared to new bikes and it works both on petrol and kerosine.
Owning a bike in 1970s/80s or 90s was a prestige issue. Not anymore. If certain people have passion for Old Jawa/Yezdi Bikes it is good. Today I find bikes a Nuisance, Pain and Troublesome on Mangalore Roads. They use not for travelling and convenience but to do circus at unquestionable speed.
Although I am proud of having a 1981 yesdi Roadking, I know one Mr. Henry Rodrigues, who had 1971 jawa...hope he still has that bike, because he used love that very much..infact before marriage...after marriage ..I do not know...I lost his touch...I am sure next year he will be there, if not this year..!!???
My first bike was Yezdi back in 1989, it was like first love! But the manufacturer turned a blind eye to the changing market and realities around then. Riders wanted bikes that offered mileage, style and comfort and new Japanese bikes provided all that. Yezdi had some mechanical issues, and electrical issues which they never bothered to fix. Had Yezdi changed its products in tune with the customer needs, we would have seen a lot of this bike on Indian roads, I had to say good bye to Yezdi in 1991 with Suzuki 100 cc for all practical reasons however i still missed the heavy hitter feel of Yezdi (similar story of legendary Ambassador vs. maruti!).
Nice pics and writeup! it was very nice riding with so many CZ''s today. Kudos to all the owners who brought out their prized possessions in the pouring rain. This ride also included riders of newer bikes whose folks at one time or the other owned this legendary bike. The turnout was approximately 40 bikes. Hope to see double the number or yezdi''s/Jawa''s next year. ROAR ON!!!
