Transcript of Rita Bahuguna Joshi's Speech

"I read that Rs5 lakh was spent on a helicopter and Rs5 lakh was spent on petrol. It went to Meerut, Ghaziabad and Mathura. Why did it go? To give Rs25,000 to a girl raped in Meerut. In another rape case of a deaf and mute woman, her husband was given Rs25,000. In a third, the father of a girl who was raped and killed was given Rs75,000...

I say (the victims should) throw such money at Maya and tell her that if she (Maya) is raped they are ready to pay her Rs1 crore..."

Such highhandedness and abuse of power will only result in the downfall of Mayawati. The power of the ballot will prevail and only time can tell.

This is hard luck of our country that we make issues of useless incidents wherein we ignore major problems.... as rightly said by JAWAHAR LAL we should have stood against the mis-use of public money in form of disbursement by helicopter.. huge parks, statues etc etc

The remarks made by smt Bahuguna Joshi did not warrant such a strong reaction as has been drummed up by BSP. Any personal attack on smt Mayawati would be in bad taste but a careful interpretation of the remark would reveal that Smt. Bahuguna only potrayed a hypothetical scenario to rightly convey the message regarding ridiculously low compensation on one hand and the exhorbitant expenditure incurred in disbursing it by use of helicopters. when a person indulges in extravaganza in every sphere flouting all cannons of rules and financial propriety he/she is bound to generate hatred to the extreme and people cannot be expected to with hold the cannon of fire in their hearts. Mayawati must realize that what all she is misdoing is not going to be good for her in the long run. people have given her the mandate she has every right to rule but she must not induldge in the kind of corruption and irregularies at the expense of the state
