Jabalpur, Jul 17: Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday served a notice to BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on a petition challenging her election from Vidisha 
 
parliamentary constituency filed by expelled Congress leader Rajkumar Patel whose nomination papers were rejected by election authorities.

Justice K K Lahoti served the notice, returnable within six weeks, Patel's counsel Manoj Sharma.

In his petition, Patel contended that although he furnished his A form in his nomination papers within the stipulated time, his candidature was rejected to help Swaraj win the elections.

Swaraj won the last Lok Sabha election by a record margin of over three lakh votes, after Patel's nomination papers were turned down and no Congress candidate could be fielded against her. Recently, the Congress expelled Patel over the issue.

Patel said he had reached the district returning officer's office in time along with the photocopy of A Form and original B Form.

"After being told to produce the original A Form along with my papers, I did the same before 3 PM - on the last date of filing of nomination papers," he said.

The Congress leader demanded that Swaraj's election be termed null and void as his papers were intentionally turned down to help her.

Patel's counsel Manoj Sharma told PTI that the Court had served notice on Swaraj.
