Bengaluru, Sep 28: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has assured that the Centre will announce aid to flood hit Karnataka in the next three days.

Karnataka was severely hit by the floods. When the reporters questioned the CM on Saturday, September 28, on the Centre's delay in providing the relief amount, he said that he has already spoken to Union Parliamentary Affairs minister Pralhad Joshi.

“Joshi met me and spoke. He has assured Central aid to Maharashtra, Karnataka and other flood hit states in another three days,” CM said.

More than 80 people lost their lives due to floods and rains in Karnataka and over 7 lac people were displaced. The heavy rains that hit the state in August this year, has affected 103 taluks across 22 districts.

Karnataka has estimated losses worth Rs 35,160.81 crore. The floods destroyed 2.47 lac homes, 6,664 schools, 3,422 anganwadis and over 300 primary health centres.

The BJP government in Karnataka faces tremendous pressure from Congress and JD(S) who are declaring the delay in compensation as Yediyurappa’s failure to get relief from the centre.

Under pressure, on August 14, the state government hiked the per-household compensation (ex-gratia) from Rs 3,800 to Rs 10,000. The state cabinet recently decided to release Rs 1,500 crores to start construction of new homes and repair public infrastructure that was damaged due to rains.
