Bengaluru: Congress MLC alleges third degree torture of DKS by ED, files complaint

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Sep 29: Congress MLC, C M Lingappa, has filed a complaint with the Karnataka State Human Right Commission (KSHRC) of alleged third-degree torture of former minister D K Shivakumar by the sleuths of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and has demanded suitable action against the ED.

"D K Shivakumar, who is under the custody of ED, is being treated as if he is a terrorist from Pakistan. He is being deprived of the basic facilities like medicine and a bed sheet. In addition, he is subjected to interrogation in the night. He is not being allowed visits by his family members. He has been kept in a dark cell. The ED is already treating him as a convict and not accused. These acts of the ED are gross violation of human rights," said Lingappa, speaking to the reporters on Saturday in the city.

Lingappa said that he has filed a complaint with KSHRC against Monica Sharma and other officers of the Enforcement Directorate, who are involved in the interrogation of D K Shivakumar alleging them of violating the human rights.

The MLC further accused that the ED is being used to threaten and suppress the political rivals by the BJP.

On query of accusations of Siddaramaiah of orchestrating the arrest of D K Shivakumar, Lingappa said, "These are baseless and purely made up stories. The former CM cannot go down to such a cheap level of putting his own party man in trouble."

"KPCC and AICC leaders are fully supportive to the former minister D K Shivakumar and are firmly backing him," said Lingappa.

Yes, they should treat him like a criminal.. Congress leaders must not have thought a day would come and would have sit in opposition & face the music.

Same treatment should be given to any corrupt leader irrespective of their party affiliations.

This would become a deterrent as the party looses election corrupt will go to jail.. This is good for the country.. slowly clean up is happening.. Hope corrupt in BJP and corrupt leaders in other parties face the same music and get punished

    Jai Hind..

The only way to counter this by Congress is to open all the pending cases like 'Vypam', 'Esiponge supplying information to Pakistani ISI in Madhya Pradesh and Saffron terror cases in Congress-ruled states.

When BJP start feeling the same heat and its 'nationalistic' image gets marred then it will come to compromise like closed-door talks during former PM Manmohan Singh after the exposure made by Maharashtra SIT report by late Hemant Karkare.

Perhaps this day would never come to Congress if they pursed the case of 'Saffron terror'.

It is a well known fact that Home Minister Amit Shah will make sure DK Shivkumar remain in Tihar as long as Karnataka BJP is fully secured by winning the extra seats in bye-polls.

Do not think that others in BJP are saints as you are blindly supporting them.
This is the sad state of affairs of our country that the only intention of the ruling party, regardless of Congress or BJP is to just use the government departments for these kind of revenge politics and waste time and money.
Economy and development has reached the nadir since 1947 but blind bhakts like you are not bothered.

Mr. Bhandarkar, Mangalore: I do not support any politicians but goingg by the report here, he is treated like a criminal. Even convicted criminals are not treated like that. What if you or any of your close people were in his position, what would have been your response? Human rights can not be abused by anybody Mr. Bhandarkar. Indias Human Rights records are poor today. I would have believed if Lingappa has spoken for a petty thief being given third degree, since many have died in custody. But it's hard to digest that DK Shi was given such treatment. Ours is a country where crorepatis are worshiped whoever they may be. I won't even believe if tomorrow some BJPian says their own crorepati Janardhan Reddy too was meted third degree.
