Kundapur, Sep 30: Saligrama Service Rasthe Horata Samithi led by Rashtriya Heddari Jagruthi Samithi held mass protest on Monday evening from Kumragodu Mabukala to Kota.

The protesters were opposing inordinate delay for constructing service road on either side of highway as per rules.

Rastriya Heddari Jagruthi Samithi president Pratap Shetty said that the absence of road from Sasthan, Kota to Mabukala has caused problems for vehicle drivers and people.

“Accidents are increasing every day. Traffic rules are imposed on people without solving basic problems. Construct the service road first,” he urged.

Saligrama Service Rasthe Horata Samithi secretary Nagaraj Ganiga vented his ire against Navayuga Company. “Toll is being collected without constructing service road that is essential for people. The police are showing their high handedness. Violent protests will be staged if the vehicle drivers are penalised without constructing service road. The representatives elected by us should also take the initiative and participate in our campaign,” he urged.

The absence of people’s representatives during the protest, made the protesters angrier. Drums were played during the protest, which managed to grab public attention.

Saligrama Service Rasthe Horata Samithi president Shamsunder Nayiri, Rastriya Heddari Jagruthi Samithi’s Vittal Poojary Airodi, Alwyn Andrade, Prashanth Shetty Pandeshwar, Mabukala Auto Chalaka Malakara Sangha, Zilla Lorry Malakara Sangha president Rajesh Kaveri, B Kishore and hundreds of people took part in the protest rally.

    The elected representatives know these are small numbers and their CHENDE MANDE won't move criminal leaders. They operate on mob strength. Religion is still better as voters' brain goes immediately to freeze mode.

    Did you seen the difference between the real reason to fight gathering and the religion gatherings ! a huge difference ! for the religion gathering for the protests you can find tremendous spirit with huge crowd but when its coming to the real reason to fight no one is there because its none of their business ! only CHENDE and some MANDE only!

    Those who organizing this kind of real time gathering should opt as till the date NO party protested for the ROADS because its a commission basis contract rewarded by the same governments regardless any party ! Our SOMEBERI people are dump and duffers only wake up on conversions and cow issues

    Why the ancient free road trodden by Rama and Seetha is charging tolls to the native dwelling people.?
    I have walked freely on this road from Sasthan to Koteswara without paying, but perhaps picking up Ruvi or Pavaane.
    Local service roads are long overdue.
    Don't let the school children demonstrate, not just the nine yards ones.

    Safety on road is a vital issue of well-being of any country. In India, two-thirds of road traffic injury (RTI) deaths are reported in the age group 15–44 years. In 2017, officially reported road accidents were 464,910, claiming 147,913 deaths and 470,975 injured persons, that is, 405 deaths and 1,290 injuries each day from 1,274 accidents.
    Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari defended the recent increase in traffic fines. According to him ‘Fines for safety, not revenue; states can make cuts.
    Heavy fines in the range of Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 95,000 have been the talk of the country since the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, cleared in parliament in July, came into force.
    Raising concern over the vehicular accidents, Gadkari said that the government has identified black spots on the National Highway and Rs 1,2000 crores will be spent to improve them.
    Last month, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had notified the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, and they were implemented in several states from September 1.

    Now here is the small village protesting from Karnataka is now protesting the basic necessity for free and safe access. It does show how poor and substandard Highway Network is planned and executed in our nation.
    As per the government data, almost 1.5 Lakh people lost their lives in road accidents in 2017, which translates to 17 deaths every hour due to an accident. I think is time for our citizens of India to think about newly introduced traffic fines proposition to the substandard quality of road engineering and design.
    The missing of service lane is one of the biggest flaws connecting the rural network of India.
    This is state ruling party BJP is in power, were MP's and MLA's elected from the same party. Also, the project executed by the construction company also serves close proximity to the party.

    Such is the pathetic situation of our National Highway network were the value for human life is negligible.
