Mangalore: Brake Failure Leads to Bus Accident - Locals Vent Rage

Mangalore, Jul 23: An accident involving a private city bus near Urva Store enraged the public and led to some tension in the area with people breaking the glass on the bus on Thursday July 23.

The bus which was plying from Kunjathabail to State Bank, hit the divider in the middle of  road and stopped after hitting a streetlight post.




















But the passengers in the bus, which included a number of school children, escaped without injuries.

Police in Urva station said that brake failure led to the accident.

At the time of the accident, the public who gathered on the spot had alleged that the bus driver was drunk. But the police said that tests have proved that this was not the case.

    I will praise the driver what ever he did to save the life of people travelling. He found the good place to stop the vehicle. Just this if it would have in some other place what would be the result. Think positive guys at least sometimes

    Mr.Sudhakar what your saying is right but the Cops also have to stop taking Hafta from this Bus association people. The series of accidents that occur in DK , is just the negligence driving of the bus drivers. First they have to stop eating that item called "Jardha" "Supari" because they are in that drug consumption , they dont realise whats happening ?? So I kindly request people of DK and those who have settled in abroad to submit an Memoradum to the D.C and the Traffic dept to have a routine check on these city & services busses on their speeding , health report of the bus etc . Then there would be a proper traffic discipline .

    Sometimes we lay people wish to play the roles of a judge. In cases like these leave the matter to the law enforcement department. They know their jobs, Having said this I tend to think that bus drives often tend to break speed barriers in an attempt to overtake other buses so that they can have the advantage passengers.

    Once as I was driving along Falnir road a speeding bus tried to overtake from the left and fully damaged the fender of my car. Fortunately I had the presence of mind to take the number of the bus and indeed the police department acted promptly and I was able to recover the damages from the bus company.

    Excellent photos from daijiworld. From the photographs it looks like the city bus involved in the accident appears to be over taking another vehicle. This shows how vigilent & alert are our drivers. This accident happened during the peak hours of the city. Thank God no one is injured in the accident. I think our drivers require a special training of road safety for driving a public transport vehicle or there should be some sort of penalty by the appropriate authorities.

    Bus Drivers needs proper guidance from Traffic Police. The accident site looks like the driver was in hurry to overtake the other bus. Poor bus drives cannot understand that they are playing with passengers life include those school children. Authorities must prevent such incidents by restricting the speed limits and placing humps in crical spots to save the life of general public.
