Sullia, Jul 24:
Karwar police, with the assistance of the police from Sullia, in a major breakthrough, arrested Shrinanda Rama Naik, chief accused in the Chethana Co-perative Bank.  The police arrested him from a hide-out in Sullia on Thursday July 23.

The police also recovered 5.9 kgs of gold jewellery worth about Rs 69 lac and cash amounting to Rs 81,500 from Shrinanda Rama Naik who is accused of burgling the Chethana Co-operative Bank in Kumta town on June 22.

Four special police teams were formed by the superintendent of police, headed by four circle inspectors of Kumta, Honnavar, Ankola, and DCIB, under the direct supervision of deputy superintendent of Bhatkal and Dandeli.

On the basis of the clues left at the crime scene, the Kumta circle inspector finally zeroed in on Shrinanda and traced him at Doddathota in Sullia taluk of DK district.

Twenty-four-year-old Shrinanda Rama Naik is a resident of Harita village of Kumta taluk, near here, and an electrician by profession.

He was nabbed by police as he was trying to flee the house of his new fiancée where he had sought shelter along with the booty.  The police are likely to seek judicial custody of Shrinanda in order to recover more jewellery related to the crime.

This is the second major burglary case detected by the Western Range police in the past three months.

The town police were instrumental in the detection of the co-operative bank theft at Kambadakone in Byndoor of Udupi district and the recovery of gold jewellery of nearly 12 kgs.

Western Range IGP Gopal Hosur appreciated the excellent effort and has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 to the team that cracked the case.
