Bangalore, Jul 24: While street fashion in Bangalore has been as good or better than New Delhi or Mumbai, the fashion show scene is yet to catch up. With an idea to bring it to light, Bangalore’s first ever fashion week started on Thursday, July 23 at a hotel in the electronic city with nine designers showcasing their collection. While not many people in the city were aware of it, the organisers have been successful in roping in some good designers including Rocky S and Manoviraj Khosla. This comes after the success of fashion weeks in Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.

Dream Merchants, organiser of Bangalore Fashion Week (BFW), has signed Seagram’s Blenders Pride as the title sponsor for the inaugural Bangalore Fashion Week. The event will end on Sunday. Aimed to showcase the best fashion talent, many young and upcoming GenNext designers are also slated to participate in the fashion week.

On day one, the designers who showcased their creations were Abhi and Rahul, Zubin Vakil, Tejas P Gandhi, Neelam Ashley, Parvesh and Jai, Lina tipnis, Bhumica & Hiral, Namrata G and Abdul Halder. Coming days will see designers including Koushik Ghosh and Priti Bansal, Pankaj Kumar and Ajit Parihar, Bhakthi Reddy, Kaira Gurnani, Priyanka Thakur, Mohit Falod, Ramesh Dembla, Samant Chauhan, Soma Nath, Rekha Jacob, Sumita, Yash Vardhan, Suman Chowdhury, Sanjay and Shammy Choraria, Jattinn Kochhar, Manoviraj Khosla, Puja Rajvanshi, Babita Jai Shankar, Sanchita Ajjampur, Lokesh Ahuja, Jason and Anshu and will close with the designs of Rocky S. Many international buyers are expected to visit in the coming days.

This first edition of the Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week will have 31 shows. S Mahajan, director, Dream Merchants, says, "Many big models, designers, and actors are from the south India. Many fashion weeks happen across the country but no such event takes place here, so we thought Bangalore is just the right place to start one."

“Fashion and lifestyle changes are a key expression of one’s self. The Blenders’ Pride Bangalore Fashion Week brings consumers closer to the best design talent and their creativity,” says Bikram Basu, vice-president, marketing, Pernod Ricard India, which acquired Seagrams in 2001.
