Bantwal, Oct 4: Now-a-days, in an alarming development, thefts have been happening at regular intervals in the areas near Vittal in the taluk. On Thursday October 3, thieves entered a number of shops located on the roadside and decamped with goods and cash.
Thieves gained entry into a shop at Okkethur and stole cash from there. They also broke open a petty shop belonging to Mohammed at Okkethur and took away cigarettes and a small amount of cash. They forced their way into another shop close to it and burgled cash from there. Allegedly, theft also took place in a shop at Alakemajalu near Vittal.
Thieves entered a rented house of Salim Seraje at Mudibar, Mangalpadavu when the inmates were away briefly and tried to steal from there also.
A complaint in this connection has been registered in Vittal police station. The shopkeepers in particular and the people in general hope that the police would put forth their best efforts and nab the gang of thieves that has been striking at the roadside shops and houses in the region at will now and then since sometime.
