Mumbai: Couple with MBA degrees and good jobs, sells food by roadside

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai (SP)

Mumbai, Oct 5: A husband-wife duo from Mumbai, with MBA degrees, has taken to selling food by the roadside not as a means of making additional money but to serve the people. The couple, Ashwini Shenoy Shah and her husband, sell food from 4 am to 10 am everyday near Kandivali railway station here before heading to their respective jobs in private companies.

Recently, a Facebook account holder, identified as Deepali Bhatia, accidentally came to know about this unique couple. On October 2 early morning this year, she had gone out for food when she saw the two, who were selling good food. The food on sale was Upma, Idli, Parathas, Poha etc. Deepali later hailed the couple's noble work in social media post.

Deepali acknowledges that the couple has been showing to the busy citizens of Mumbai who think they do not have time, that it is not so. She appreciates them for putting interests of others over their own. "We went in search of good food early morning on October 2 and stumbled upon the stall outside Kandivali railway station. A look at the couple running this small stall made us to believe that they must be from Gujarat. I talked to them and realized that they were doing some service that was so inspirational," she stated.

She says that the couple belongs to a well-to-do family and that they were selling food cooked by the female cook of the family aged 55, whose husband is down with paralysis. They told her that they sell these items on behalf of the said cook from 4 to 10 am and then leave for their offices. They have been working to support their cook to ensure that she does not have to run from pillar to post to make both ends meet.

The couple emerges as motivating forces from among lacs of people who relentlessly chase their dreams of accumulating more wealth, having no regard to the plight of others. May noble people like them proliferate and teach others to vibe for the pains of others.

Very inspirational. Despite some of the jibes I read here, the couple is supporting their much needy maid to take care of her disabled husband.

They said, "doing not for the sake of money". Then what more can say with media? We did not get job and so we started doing this. Certainly, they did not find any other way than Modi pakoda business.

What is new here? I am living in Port Blair (Andaman) most of the Govt & Pvt company job holders selling Biriyani and other home made foods on the streets after 5 PM on daily basis. Many women sells milk to households by scooter after or before their duty timing. All of them are highylqualified. Those who are having house on the road side, they are keeping one stove on their gallery and selling tea, coffee, snacks etc. This kind of extra earning is common here since many decades.

Very well said. family and friends is determined by how well our family and friends stand by and support us in our toughest and most distressful times Use your time to support the needy people, not to make them more look silly. All your actions will be visible and counted on the Day of Justice. We must know that.

I have seen Indians are working in petrol pumps, hotels, even as security guards in foreign countries even they are holding big qualification. But in India the culture is very bad I.e if with some good qualifications and works as salesman, etc. Even in udupi I saw housemaids get good salary but no one wants to work as housemaids and its downgrading their standard. What type of hindu culture is this?

This is the cost they pay to keep the maid for themselves. A house help must work in four- five houses on part time to earn about 20K per month. But to have somebody for full-time, she charges nearly 15K which is exhorbient to middle class people. They may have a mutual agreement that she uses their facilities, they sell her products. Profit shared understandably.

Nevertheless, I do appreciate their offer to share her problems - they could even have spent that time in the gym which they don't. Thank you people for making a difference in your maid's life.

Many youths who do NOT want to work just go behind some politicians and fill their stomach with biriyani and thotte in the night during election time ( Grama panchyaat, State, central election and election) When there is no election they are kangal with no penny in the pocket, they look for an opportunity & make scapegoats of innocent & week people and extort money by threatening. These people also have to learn from these couple.
