Bangalore: Rs 5 Lac Each Honorarium to 15 Kargil Martyrs’ Families

Bangalore, Jul 27:  Families of 15 martyrs from Karnataka in the Indo-Pakistan Kargil war of 1999 will be given an honorarium of Rs 5 lac each, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa announced in the state assembly on Monday.

The chief minister, who paid homage to the people who bravely fought for the country and lost their lives in the Kargil action on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, also announced that the government would sanction honorarium of Rs 1 lac each to the soldiers who were seriously injured and suffered disabilities.

Of the Rs 5 lac, the martyr’s wife and children would get Rs 3 lac and Rs 2 lac to the parents. If the martyr was unmarried, the honorarium would be given to his parents or guardian, Yeddyurappa said,.

The money would be distributed during the Independence Day celebrations next month as a fitting tribute to the soliders who fought and sacrificed their lives for the country.

The chief minister said the government would bear all the education expenses of the children of Kargil martyrs. If the children were above 18 years, they would be given government jobs, he announced.

The Kargil heroes whose family members would get the cheque from the Chief Minister on Independence Day are: Dhondiba Narayana Desai, Mohilin Subrahmanyam, Siddhagouda Patil, Yashwant Kolkar Mekalamaradi, Bharath Baban Maske and Basappa Chougula Darura from Belgaum; Dilip Potdar Gadyal and Shivabasaiah Basaiah Kulkarni from Bagalkot; Davalasab Allisaba Kambara and Ashok Bheemappa Jadhav from Bijapur; Mallaiah Megalamatha Alvandi from Koppa; P D Kaverappa Maithadi and S.K. Medappa, Karangadoora from Kodagu, H.V. Yankatu, Agrahara, Hassan; and Lt. Col. Ajeeth Bhandarkar from Bangalore.

The house unanimously passed a resolution, moved by the chief minister, condoling the death of the soldiers and expressing solidarity with their family members and the injured soldiers.

The members stood up in silence and observed a minute’s  silence  as mark of respect to the soliders who laid their lives in the Kargil conflict.
