Mangalore: Wilfy's Sentimental Nite - a Total Sell Out Show

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 29: As the D-day for the much-talked and awaited ‘Wilfy Rebimbus' Sentimental Nite’ scheduled to be held at T M A Pai Auditorium on Aug 2, 2009 is getting closer, the demand for the tickets has reached its peak and all the tickets have been sold out at least a week before the show !

The hall has a capacity of over 2000 audiences, and a good number of NRIs have also come to the town for grabbing the opportunity to watch one of the top class shows in Konkani music.

Leslie Rego, main co-ordinator of the show, has informed daijiworld, that it has indeed become a very tough task to attend to the ticket queries, as there has been a huge surge in the demand for the show since the last few days, and people have been asking for the tickets in bulk. People from different  parishes of Mangalore diocese have planned to come in groups, while on the other hand, people from Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Mysore and other parts of India have also confirmed many of the seats.

'Since it is holiday season for the NRIs in the gulf, we can see a large number of Wilfy's fans in the town now, and many of them have made an exclusive trip to the city, to witness ‘Wilfy's sentimental Nite’ that marks 50th year of Wilfy's life in Konkani music' says Leslie.

"We have received tremendous support from every corner, right from the sponsors, advertisers, volunteers and our United Youngsters comittee members," he added. Mangalore's ace radio, BIG FM, has confirmed its collaboration with the show as the official radio partner for the event.

The show will start at sharp 5.30 pm. The three-hour non stop entertainment includes Wilfy's selected sentimental songs of current and yesteryears. There has been a flood of requests from the music lovers from around the world, to play their favourite numbers. At least, half of the show songs will be the songs-on-request, and rest of them are the ones chosen by Wilfy and his troupe. Apart from music, there will be comedy shows by Dolla, Kulla with Me-Mo-Re trio.

As announced on daijiworld earlier, Wilfy Rebimbus' 40 music albums in a single pouch, will be symbolically launched during the show, and orders will be taken from those interested in buying the entire pouch.

All in all, the event will be remembered for a long time come...

Leslie Rego has also informed that, on Aug 15, 2009, United Youngsters would be organizing another event to mark United Youngsters' 50th anniversary at Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore. Those who miss 'Sentimental Nite' on Aug 2, have a good news on hand, as another WIlfy Nite is also planned there. But this will be a programme of olden goldies of Wilfy Rebimbus, and not the 'Sentimental Nite'.

More details of the event will follow on daijiworld.

I hope the Mayor of Mangalore will proclaim Sundeay, August 2, 2009 as "Wilfy Rebimbus Day". Fifty years of dedication to musical entertainment has brought a tremnendous cultural, social, religious as well as educational benefit for the Konkany society of Mangalore.

Hundreds of thousands of people of Mangalore and India have been entertained thereby enhancing the Konkany heritage. Auspicious occasions such as these need be recognized thru as many civic and religious groups so that the community recognizes those that have given so much for our community. I become ''sentimental'' when it comes to anything to do with Wilfy Rebimbus, and here I am thousands of miles away from Wilfy''s Golden Sentimental Nite wishing Oh! I should have been there too. For me it is like missing important family get-together. My sincere best wishes to United Youngsters and Wilfy, Meena, Veena, Arthur, Vishu, Charleen and the organizing team, may the show be a ''grand success''. I could not be there in person but will definitely be there in spirit (as it does not need any ticket to travel or at the gates) Eddie Sequeira Doha /Mangalore

Shan Your following sentence is really touchy "Please do not disappoint the oldies, who supported Mr Wilfy in the past 50 years " It is absolutely true but sad though!

Congratulations to Wilfy & Group for launching 1-40 album in 1 pouch. I am really dissappointed with your selling price. Now it looks like it can be avail only by those who can afford it. I think they (Wify & Group) have forgotten that majority of people are of lower middle class background, who cannot afford to buy the album shelling out Rs 3,999. Please do not disappoint the oldies, who supported Mr Wilfy in the past 50 years and my request is that it can be reasonable priced between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.
