Mangalore, Aug 17:  At the protest programme staged at Sharavu Lord Mahaganapati temple premises here in the city, Srirama Sene leader Prasad Attavar demanded for the immediate arrest of the culprits, who have joined hands to hatch a conspiracy to disturb the minds of the peace lovers from the city.

The protest was organized by Srirama Sene, in connection with the incident in which the head of an animal’s carcass was found to have been thrown in the temple premises on Saturday. The Sene activists gathered at the temple premises and started the protest programme by raising slogans, hailing their organization.

Prasad Attavar, addressing the protestors, said that the state government has forgotten its roots and the path it treaded to reach this position, after coming to power. As such, it is now not interested in protecting the rights and the religious beliefs of Hindus, they alleged. Srirama Sene leaders are being tortured by the government for the resentment they showed against the damage being caused to the Indian culture, he said.

He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruling in the state, should recollect the assurances it had given, prior to the election, that of protecting Hindutva.

He said that abandoning the heads of animal carcasses in front of the religious places is a very sacrilegious act that hurts the religious feelings. So, the persons behind it should be arrested immediately in order to maintain peace in district, he urged. He also demanded for posting policemen to guard the temples against repetition of such incidents in the future.

The district-level leaders of Srirama Sene took part in the protest.

MLA Yogish Bhat and chairman of Coastal Development Authority B Nagaraj Shetty arrived on the spot and tried to pacify the agitating activists. They asked the activists to give two more days’ time for the policemen, who have been trying their best to nab the miscreants involved.
