Mangalore, Aug 19: Urwa Sudhir Shetty, owner of petroleum tankers, who was accused of hoarding kerosene meant for the public distribution system, surrendered to the policemen here on Monday August 17 night. It may be recalled, that in a surprise raid, food and civil supplies minister Haratal Halappa had unearthed over 25,000 litres of kerosene stored near Bykampady Industrial area in the city on August 2. The tanker owner had gone missing then.

At that time, the minister also had discovered huge stocks of petrol and diesel during the raid. Some people had also expressed the suspicion that kerosene was meant for being mixed with other petroleum products.

Shetty was armed with an anticipatory bail order at the time of his surrender. As such, the Panambur policemen arrested him as soon as he presented himself before them, and then released him on bail. Shetty was accompanied by his advocate at the time.
