Mangalore: Devotees take Holy Dip on Shravan Amavasya

Mangalore, Aug 20: As per the Hindu belief, every day in Shravana month is auspicious. It is believed that during this auspicious month, the Gods are in a benevolent mood and therefore, easily grant the wishes of the worshippers. The month also has several festivals like Rakhi, Rigupakarma, Srikrishna Janmashtami, Chudi puja etc. The scriptures say that Lord Shiva can be appeased easily if worshipped in a specific manner on Mondays of the Shravana month, while Fridays are considered ideal for worshipping Goddess Mahalakshmi. Tuesdays are reserved to offer puja to Goddess Mangalagowi during this month.
Shravana Amavasya (new moon day) is considered holy by many. It gets added significance because of the fact that it precedes Vinayaka Chaturti, which falls on August 23, this year.
