Facebook leases 1.5mn square ft at New York's Hudson Yards

New York, Nov 15 (IANS): Social media giant Facebook has signed a lease for more than 1.5 million square feet of office space in New York City's Hudson Yards.

The lease includes 30 floors and three buildings in the luxury commercial and residential development complex, Hudson Yards said in a statement on Thursday.

The $25 billion worth complex is located on the west side of Manhattan near the Hudson River and above the rail yards.

The lease deal includes approximately 1,200,000 square feet in 50 Hudson Yards, approximately 265,000 square feet in 30 Hudson Yards and approximately 57,000 square feet in 55 Hudson Yards.

"When considering the next phase of our growth in the city, it was important that our newest office space was situated in the heart of a vibrant community that offered access to arts, culture, media and commerce," John Tenanes, Facebook's Vice President, Global Facilities and Real Estate, said in a statement.

"Hudson Yards offered this and more, and we are excited to expand our offices there starting in 2020," John added.

This lease is one of the biggest real estate transactions in Facebook's history and it is not yet clear which of Facebook's teams will be at the Hudson Yards offices.

Among the other known tenants in Hudson Yards are WarnerMedia, L'Oreal USA, Guardian Life Insurance Co., Wells Fargo Securities and Equinox.
