Bantwal: Huge Iron Beams Used For Fourlane Works at NH-18 Collapse Injuring Four

Bantwal, Aug 23: Huge iron beams used for concretization of the fourlane flyover under construction on National Highway-48 (NH-48) near B C Road here collapsed on Saturday August 22 night injuring four labourers on the spot.

The labourers have been identified as Shameer, Mithun, Bachchan and Mohan. Among the four Bachchan has been grievously injured. All the four have been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore. 










The mishap occurred when the works of concretizing through filling the cement and jelly stones into the huge iron beams erected with the help of crane to join the huge pillars of the fourlane flyover was under progress in front of the Pinto Complex here. Amid the works, the temporary pillars supporting the huge iron beams collapsed resulting in buckling down of the iron beams. 

Locals say that if the accident had occurred during the daylight the damage would have been greater. The mishap has created fears in the minds of the people as works of connecting the huge pillars that support the flyover is under progress and there are over ten pillars that need to be connected through concretization

    This is a reflection of professional caliber of all those involved in this mega project. Are those engineers who have been assigned this job have anything to say on their credentials?. It''s a nightmare to travel through this road and no sooner the completion of this project see the day light, we will have the patch work from the other end. There''s no use of earmarking huge capex for this kind of mega projects when their proper implementation is handed over to few interested corrupt developers

    This is the standard of our contruction of bridges ? i have noticed these bridges built across Surathkal and i noticed the way how they are working,I think our official are one who responsible for this.If they would have taken strict quality of job then nothing would have happen. I have seen a lot of bridge contruction in India as well as abroad,Our standard is decreasing instead of improving. GO please save us from these desastors.

    There should be international level saftey precautions for every major constructions like this one...there should be proper supervision regarding saftey from local autorities or else they should bring contractor under penalty zone....

    Sad news is that 4 poor people were injured. Thank God, it fell down in this stage, it would have caused more damage after the inaguration, punish the main and sub contractors both.

    We travel on that road everyday, fortunately it didn,t happen in the day time as many were commuting on the same road. If it had collapsed after concretisation, then too the loss of material as well as loss of life would have been great. Thank God it didn''t happen any other -way or any other day.

    Our dreams of having nice highways have been collapsed . Catch those greedy contractors and punish them , Even after so many years of freedom of our country there is bno accountability , Anybody can do any thing without fear if this is the meaning of freedom we I ndians should give up this!
