Mangalore: Policemen unearth Two-year-Old Murder Case

Mangalore, Aug 25: The special intelligence squad of the superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada district has unearthed a case of murder that had been committed two years ago. Siddappa (36), a labourer of Bagalkot origin, who had come to the city seeking work, was murdered and his body was buried by his killers. The wife of the murdered man is one among the six accused in the case.

Mohammed Anwar (27) from Ballurgudde in Kannur village,  Mohammed Naufal (20) from Ballurgudde, presently living in Valachil Padav, Abdul Basheer (34), Mohammed Salim (23), Mohammed Naushad (29) and Renuka alias Kasturi (26), wife of the late Siddappa from Hosa Gudri Katram Kuntimane of Kadlimatti village of Bagalkot district, have been arrested by the policemen, relating to this case.

The theory of the policemen is that Kasturi had illicit relationship with Mohammed Anwar from Ballurgudde. The two, with the help of four other accused, had killed Siddappa on December 6, 2007, the policemen have claimed. It is learnt, Kasturi had been married to Hanumant, brother of her mother, when she was very young. As she did not like Hanumant, she later married Siddappa and lived in Mangalore with husband and a six-year old son. After she was involved with an affair with Mohammed Anwar, at the advice of Anwar, who thought that Siddappa can become a stumbling block in their affair, a plan to kill her husband was hatched. At their advice, Kasturi brought Siddappa near the railway track in Ballurgudde, where four men held Siddappa, while Anwar tightened a nylon rope around Siddappa's neck and killed him. Thereafter, they buried the body of Siddappa near this spot. The policemen, upon digging the spot of the murder, recovered pieces of bone, a nylon rope, pieces of clothes and a belt reportedly worn by Siddappa at the time of murder.

Kasturi lived here for some time thereafter, and admitted her son Ravi into Prajna Counselling Centre here. After a few months, she went to Bagalkot, where she recently married a person named Raju. She already faces a theft case, registered in Kavoor police station, the policemen said.

Panambur deputy superintendent of police Girish, sub inspector Prakash and their team was involved with the investigations.
