Three Held for Human Trafficking, 3 Girls Rescued

New Delhi, Aug 25 (IANS) Delhi Police Tuesday claimed to have busted a human trafficking racket with the arrest of three people, including a mother-son duo. Three girls have been rescued.

Acting on a complaint by Anita Devi, a resident of west Delhi's Nangloi village, that her 23-years-old daughter Manju was missing since Aug 16, when she had gone to seek employment from Sunil Jha who runs a placement agency, the police started investigations.

"On investigation, Vinod Mandal, 23, Sanjay Kant, 33, his mother Savitri, 55 -- all residents of Bihar were arrested. They used to lure girls from economically weaker sections on the pretext of placing them as domestic helps," said a senior police officer.

"Raids were conducted in Delhi and Haryana and Manju was rescued. On interrogation, Sanjay disclosed information about a large scale human trafficking racket. Subsequently, two more girls were rescued," the police officer added.

"He revealed that when Manju approached Sunil, he along with other associates abducted her and took her to Rohtak in Haryana where Sanjay allegedly raped her. She was then sold for Rs.30,000 to Parmanand. Manju was supposed to be further sold somewhere in Haryana for the purpose of marriage or otherwise," the police officer said.

"The accused used to get girls through agents from states like Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal on the pretext of giving them employment as domestic helps. Since these girls belong to economically poor backgrounds, they would believe them. Sunil would then negotiate the deal with Parmanand and other associates in Rohtak for the sale of these girls in various parts of Haryana," the police officer added.

"The accused also used to sexually assault the girls and beat them so that they do not muster the courage to complain to anybody. More raids are being conducted to apprehend other members of the syndicate," the police officer said.
