Shiradi Ghat to be Closed for Traffic from Sep 3

MANGALORE, Aug 30 (The Hindu): The Shiradi Ghat will be closed for traffic from September 3 to 12 to remove the dangerous boulders along the road.

An official communication said here on Saturday that the road in the ghat section on National Highway 48 would be closed up to Hassan district border at Gundya Check Post, pointing out that traffic was hit recently when boulders slipped down to the road recently. Consequent to this, the base of the hillock had weakened and huge boulders from the top of the hillocks could fall on the road again.

The Executive Engineer of the National Highway Division has banned vehicular movement on the dates mentioned above to remove the boulders standing precariously.

Alternative route

The vehicles could, alternatively, travel by Puttur-Madikeri-Mysore route or Moodigere-Charmadi-Belthangady route, the official note said.
