Mangalore: Iftar Party Spreads Message of Peace

Mangalore, Sep 3 (The Hindu): The cream of Mangalore society came together to spread the message of peace harmony and friendly relations at an iftar party hosted by Yenepoya University and the U.S. Consulate, Chennai, here on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, Scott Woodard, political and economic officer of the U.S. Consulate, said that the United States was committed to building a world that was more peaceful and secure. “That is why we are responsibly ending the war in Iraq and isolating violent extremists while empowering people in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan,” he said.

He praising the rituals practised by Muslims during Ramadan and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance and dignity.

John Mathew from the US Consulate was another chief guest.

Vice-chancellor of Yenepoya University Y Abdulla Kunhi spoke on the importance of Iftar in the month of Ramadan.

Dr Sayyed Akhil Ahmed, associate vice-chancellor of Yenapoya University, and entrepreneur and philanthropist B R Shetty from Abu Dhabi, were also present.
