Mangaluru, Dec 21: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, who spoke to mediapersons at Circuit House said that curfew will be lifted completely lifted from December 23.
He said, “I have directed officials to relax the curfew from 3 pm to 6 pm today on December 21 and from 6 am to 6 pm on December 22.
“Hindu, Christian and Muslim community leaders provided me the clear picture of the city. They also requested me to lift the curfew. Christmas and other festivals are very near, hence the police will withdraw curfew from December 23 completely. Bu, prohibitory orders will be in place for a more few days," he said.
The CM also instructed deputy commissioner of Mangaluru and district administration to release compensation as per the law for the families of the two who died in police firing on Thursday. “I instructed the district administration to hand over compensation to the families of the deceased. After verifying the technicalities, they will get proper compensation. I had spoken to the family members of both and heard their part. I also spoke to the Muslim leaders of Mangaluru and expressed my condolence on incident," he said.
Speaking on arrest of media persons from Kerala, he said, “I sought a report on this incident and came to know that the reporters did not carry their identification cards from their respected media houses.”
Chairman of Christian Development Board of the state Joylus D’Souza had made a special request to the CM to relax the curfew on Saturday and Sunday as Christians in the city attend Mass on those days.
CM meets famiies of two who died in police firing
Chief minister Yediyurappa later met the families of the Abdul Jaleel and Nausheen who died in police firing during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 19. The families came to Circuit House to meet him.
Abdul Jaleel's brother and children and Nausheen's brother and other family members met the CM and expressed their pain at losing their loved ones. They demanded justice and sought action in the matter.
Yediyurappa assured them that justice would be done and expressed his sympathies.

Mangaluru, Dec 21: Chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa who was at Mangaluru International Airport on Saturday, December 21, said that he has sought a detailed report on the incidents of violence which took place in the city on Thursday.
Addressing media, he said, “I have had a discussion on the present situation in Mangaluru city with the police commissioner and higher officials of the district. I have also requested district in-charge minister and MLAs of Mangaluru to monitor the situation and assist people in their difficulties.
"I have ordered an inquiry into the police firing to ascertain the reasons for resorting to it after teargas and baton charge were used to disperse the protestors from the secretariat in the city on Thursday," Yediyurappa told reporters here after reviewing the law and order situation with police and district officials.
“I will hold another meeting with police officers and elected representatives to take important decisions on the situation. It is my request to people to please cooperate with police to maintain law and order which is very necessary in this difficult period,” he said.
Kota Srinivas Poojary, district in-charge minister, MLAs Sanjeev Matandoor, Vedavyasa Kamath, and Bharath Shetty were accompanying the CM.
CM Yediyurappa then moved to Circuit House for a meeting with police officers and elected representatives.
The CM is expected to go to Manipal to visit the ailing Pejawar Swamiji who is admitted at a private hospital.
