Mangaluru, Dec 24: A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the firing which claimed two lives during the protest in the city against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) last wek. An order to that affect was issued on Monday December 23 night.

Udupi district deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, has been vested with the responsibility of this inquiry. He has been appointed as the executive magistrate and asked to complete his inquiry and submit report to the government in three months’ time.

It may be recalled that earlier, Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa, had announced the decision to hand over investigation to Criminal Investigation Department. To critics of this decision, he had asserted that he had never said that the government would order judicial inquiry or inquiry through a retired judge.

Former chief minister, Siddaramaiah, during his visit to the city, had demanded inquiry headed by a high court sitting judge if the truth behind the incident has to come out.
