Mangaluru, Dec 28: A team of CID police, which has arrived in the city on Friday, December 27, in order to conduct high level inquiry into the recent anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests and subsequent police firing, in which two people were killed, has started the investigation straightaway.

A team of five officials under the leadership of CID SP Rahul Shahapur has taken up the investigation. The team has got three months’ time to complete the inquiry and submit the report. It is learnt that the team is going to collect all the information related to the violence that took place on December 19 and then start the investigation.

Mangaluru police have already collected huge amount of information, including CCTV and other video clips related to the violence. The CID team will also verify whether the primary investigation done by the Mangaluru police is correct or not. The team visited the office of police commissioner on the morning of Friday, December 27 and collected necessary information.

In the midst of this, as the government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, deputy commissioner of Udupi district G Jagadeesha will also take up the investigation on December 28. He is also given three months’ time by the government to submit his report.

Senior police officers, including the city police commissioner and other police personnel, who have taken part in the police operation on December 19 are continuously receiving threat calls. The police officers, who have taken a serious note of this, have appraised the same to the Cyber Crime police station. Sources are saying that the police are trying to find out the origin of these calls.

Higher police officials have informed the police personnel to be more alert in the wake of the threat calls. The security in the city is beefed up. Each and every one, who is arriving at the office of the police commissioner is subjected to intense frisking. It is also gathered that high level government officials have directed to provide security to the city police commissioner when he is doing rounds in the city also.

The police officers, who have served earlier in the city of Mangaluru, are also called in order to gather vital information with regards to the sensitivity of the city and also for reality check. K U Belliappa, Thammaiah, Rajendra, Bhaskara Vokkaliga, Dr H N Venkatesha Prasanna and Valentine D'Souza, the police officers who have served earlier in the city are in Mangaluru to help with the investigation.
